Deborah Valcin is a Haitian filmmaker who’s been writing and creating films in Austin for the past decade.
Deborah recently received her MFA Degree from the Radio, Television, & Film program at the University of Texas at Austin with a focus in Screenwriting. Her work has been recognized by festivals in Texas such as the Denton Black Film Festival, the Black Auteur Film Festival, the Arthouse Film Festival as well as the Austin Film Festival. Recently, she was the graduate recipient of the 2025 Robert Foshko Scholarship.
When she’s not planning her next project, you can find Deborah at a computer rewriting and revising script drafts, at the skate park teaching herself how to spin on quad skates, or plotting her next hobby: stained glass making.
Mission Statement
Deborah Valcin’s mission as a filmmaker is to create and elevate films pertaining to the Haitian experience and the Haitian diaspora here in Texas. Her goal is to work with filmmakers in Austin to create stories that also center around mental health within the Black community in Texas.
