La Petite Bourgeois
An experimental short film and critical commentary on class relations in Haiti. This commentary explores the lifestyle of Haitian Boujwa from the narrative of an outsider with a deep desire to be on the inside regardless of the unwritten rules that shape and have shaped the Haitian upper class for centuries; rules that can either work for someone or against someone.
It's a desire I've felt for years; the desperate curiosity of what it was like to go to parties and actually enjoy them. To spend weeks at a time at beach resorts at Christmas and during the summer. To have a house on Montaigne Noir among the vegetation and the fog looking down at the country below me on my luxurious balcony. Being accepted into the group because I looked the right way instead of being rejected for the way I looked. The desire can be maddening.
